According to world football governing body FIFA, the 2018 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony will have a slightly different format compared to previous editions of the tournament, with a particular focus on musical acts.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to kick off at 1730hrs (5:30PM) East Africa Standard Time and the curtain raiser affair will last only 30 minutes! This will then pave way for the opening match between hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia. This will all go down at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, the same stadium that will host the tournament finals.
British singer Robbie Williams was tipped to be the headlining act for today and he didn’t turn down the invitation. The 90s pop icon isn’t new to soccer as he helped mastermind another edition of Soccer Aid for UNICEF previously. “I’m so happy and excited to be going back to Russia for such a unique performance. Robbie Williams will be joined by celebrated Russian soprano Aida Garifullina.
Contrary to what has been trading cross social media platforms in Uganda, the official FIFA World Cup; Russia 2018 song is “Live It Up” featuring Will Smith, Nicky Jam and Era Isttrefi and not Jason Derulo’s “Colors”. “Colors” is the official FIFA World Cup; Russia 2018 song for Coca Cola. Traditionally, the FIFA World Cup official song is performed ahead of the opening match. “Live It Up” was sang in both English and Spanish.
With Nicky Jam, a Reggeaton artist behind songs such as “Travesuras”, “Te Busco”, “El Perdón”, “Hasta el Amanecer”, and “El Amante”, you gotta brace yourselves for some good vibes up on that stage tonight. Check it out here.
