Uganda Premier League 2019/20 fixtures released; Jinja sides to use same venue

The most decorated football league in the country is back for yet another season. After almost three months of rest and a pre-season preparation by teams, the Uganda Premier League (UPL) board on Wednesday 14th August 2019 released the fixtures for the 2019/2020 season.

At a press conference attended by the UPL CEO Mr. Bainamani Bernard, League Chairman, FUFA representatives, and representatives from League Sponsor Startimes, the fixtures were announced with the first game coming on Thursday 29th August 2019 in which newcomers Kyetume FC will host 16 title-holder SC Villa at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. This game will be played under floodlights at exactly 8:00 PM.

The other games will follow on Friday and Saturday with Jinja’s self-named money team BUL FC hosting Express FC at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru. Busoga United FC (formerly called Kirinya Jinja SS FC) will be away against Tooro United at the Betway Muteesa II memorial stadium, Wankulukuku.

Both teams from the East were denied the right to host their games at their original homes after failing to fulfill the ingredients required by the club licensing board for a stadium to host games. The requirements among others include green grass, sanitary rooms, the ability to separate the fans, internal perimeter, dressing rooms, etc. They were however given a chance to go back to their home stadiums in case the requirements are met.
