It is a hard paper for one to speak about Ugandan music and not mention the name Jose Chameleone. Having started out in 1996 as an MC (hypeman) at Missouri Club in Kampala, Jose Chameleone went on to cement his place on the music scene as the most popular musician of his generation with his afro-fused music.
With over 15 music albums to his name, Jose Chameleone, born Joseph Mayanja, has this morning come out and hinted on retiring from music! Set to perform at this year’s Ugandan North American Association (UNAA) Convention in Chicago, Chameleone shared a video of him in rehearsals and captioned it with a hint on retirement.
It is not et clear whether this statement is straight or ambiguous, given it is coming from ‘Chameleone’. However, the 40-year old artiste recently declared his intentions to join active politics and intends to run for the Kampala Lord Mayoral seat under Democratic Party ticket in the 2021 General Elections in Uganda.
We are on the lookout for clearer signs.
