- There are 5 opening fixtures starting at 2:00 PM
- Hima Cement Heathens leads the table with 13pts
- Jinja Hippos has played 3 games and won only 1
After a four-week festive season break, the Nile Special Stout Rugby Premier League returns this Saturday, January 11, 2020, in Kampala. The top-flight league took a break on Saturday, December 4, 2019, after three match-days but is set to make a return with some action-packed fixtures.
The Jinja Hippos, who sit at the seventh position on the table, will start the new decade with an away-fixture against second-placed 9 Barrel Warriors at Legends Sports Grounds in a game officiated by Rose Kanyunyuzi, Peter Ochol and Harrington Menya. As the hosts, Warriors, will be playing to maintain their unbeaten run in the early kick-off, Jinja Hippos will be out to secure a win after two losses last year in three games.
In other Match Day 4 fixtures, table leaders Hima Cement Heathens will host Plascon Mongers at Kyadondo Rugby Club at 4:30 pm in what is an arguably tight fixture. Heathens have defeated Mongers twice at Kyadondo and Entebbe but can’t afford to relax when the two return to Kyadondo.
Mulago Rams will host Betway Kobs at The Graveyard, Makerere, at 4:30 PM while the Shell Rimula Rhinos will host Toyota Buffaloes at Legends at 4:30 Pm after the Hippos-Warriors game. Bottom-placed Makerere Impis will travel to Kings Park Stadium in Bweyogere for a date with Stanbic Black Pirates at 4:30 PM.
With a change in the weather in the central region where the majority of the teams are based, the ultimate test will be on the versatility of the players to adapt. The weather has been wet and muddy but the teams will now have to deal with a hot and dry season.
Jinja Hippos was promoted to the top-flight league in 2016. The team comprises players in their early 20s and is the only team outside Kampala giving the top teams a run for their money.
