Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) yesterday moved and suspended the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) Chief Executive Officer Mr. Wasula James and the Compliance Officer Mr. Matovu Dickson over alleged mismanagement of finances and royalties collected from users.
According to a press release issued on Monday, July 29th, 2019, the suspension is to allow for an effective ongoing inquiry into the working and financial health of the society in accordance with the laws under which it is established.
For a long time now, one of the major complaints raised by artistes regarding UPRS has been the manner in which Mr. Wasula runs the affairs of the society. The mistrust rotates around alleged corruption and alleged refusal to have a change of guard at the helm of UPRS.
