Camp Comedy makes a return to Jinja this Saturday 2nd November 2019 for its fourth edition. All plans are underway to have the standup comedy event at Forever Resort, right below the Source of the Nile Bridge.
Comedy has not been received well in Jinja since 2018 when Laftaz Comedy Lounge closed shop. Pit Stop Sports Lounge, Laftaz’s successor, is trying to keep the fire burning with a monthly comedy night on the last Wednesday of the month though more efforts are needed.
With comedy attracting more and more audiences now, Camp Comedy comes as a breath of fresh air. Unlike popular comedy nights around the country, Camp Comedy is a trans-night event. It happens in the open and is produced to involve standup comedians cracking jokes and ribs around a campfire. This goes on amidst DJ-mix interludes. Revellers who get tired have tents to which they can retire since the event goes on until the next day at midday.
“We have added onto the performers’ lineup to include Salvador, Madrat & Chiko, and Omukebete,” said Felix ‘Dolibondo’ Jesero when asked about this year’s edition. “We had a challenge last year. We ran out of tents but we now have a new partner who will provide enough tents at the venue. We expect a lot of people and we will make efforts to cater for all of them,” added the standup comedian who is also the Camp Comedy boss and host.
The cover charge is UGX30,000. For those intending to stay the whole night, a tent at UGX20,000 more will come in handy.
