Musician Shammy K on Wednesday released the audio of her latest song Obuntuntu. This is a follow-up of Nesiga released last month featuring Victor Ruz and Trumpet, her September release featuring multi-talented artiste Daddy Andre.
Obuntuntu is a story of a woman so smitten with her lover. Shammy K paints a vivid picture to breathe life into the 2:50 minutes song. In the song, she drops lines like “Onjogeza obuntuntu, onsudde eddalu…” which translates to mean “You make me speak in tongues…I’m running mad…”
“I wanted to do something for abantu bawansi (downtown audience), something that would bring me closer to them,” intimated the soft-spoken Shammy K when asked why she made a shift in music approach on this new song. Shammy K’s approach to music for the last four years has been urban with a touch of R&B and Dancehall. Obuntuntu is an Afro-Beat song; think of a David Lutalo vibe.
The song was written by Trix, a rising songwriter and produced by Sidesoft at Zivuga Music Studio in Makindye, a Kampala suburb. Trix is also the songwriter behind Ssuupu, Shammy K’s cover for Willy Paul & Rayvanny’s Mmmh released in July 2019.
